An Open Letter to the Scab Teachers of Fremont High

May 17, 2012

6/23/2012 UPDATE: One of the veteran teachers not good enough for the snot- nosed inexperienced “teachers” at Fremont was just hired at a Magnet School.

Did you ever stop just once to think, “What if that was my mother, or my grandfather or aunt or uncle?”  Nah, didn’t think so.  I am  of course talking about the politically correct placement of all new teachers as heads of Small Learning Communities a year after the reconstitution  of Fremont so they could then- in violation of the  UTLA contract- “interview” veteran African-American and anglo teachers and then conveniently not rehire them.

This all  happened over the last few weeks.  Hey, wasn’t  Fremont already reconstituted two years ago?   What will happen to those teachers infinitely more talented than you who devoted years of their lives to Fremont that you most likely never will?  I know you don’t give a fuck about what will happen to them because that’s just who you all are.

Maybe you are all so shortsighted and arrogant as to not understand the golden rule.  Do you really think this district cares about you or thinks you are so much better than a veteran teacher who gave up  many of her lunch hours to teach her students? No, they just like your price tag -cheap.   So what was it really?  Not young enough or maybe just the wrong color?    You’ll never tell because as the principal of Fremont High is so fond of saying, “That’s a lawsuit.”  It most certainly is.

One of the dedicated teachers not selected sent out this quote:

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

I wish I could share her faith, but unfortunately, the war on teachers looks like it’s just beginning.

I’ve been rinsed through several of these so-called interviews. They didn’t help my career, but I enjoyed the irony.

I guess all we can do is laugh at the absurdity at this point
