And The Winner Is…None of the Above*

April 10, 2011

From the Save Huntington Park High School website

* Restrictions apply.  Didn’t see this coming, heh?

It turns out that the tempermental Ray Cortines doesn’t like any of the Huntington Park High School teacher plans and is hinting at….”restructur..constition” …come on Fremont teachers, you know, we went through it!

At the beginning of the process the HPHS staff was united in wanting to save their comprehensive high school.  We tried to warn them they needed to fight but it’s different when it’s your own school – so they did what they were told- they wrote Public School Choice plans and got pranked in the end…now instead of Public School Choice 2.5 the uppity superintendent wants them in PSC 3.0 and up for charter takeover.   Now that the staff is divided they are easier to conquer, not to mention the stress over upcoming RIF’s which they will be dealing with also.

VAM is also on the way, and the district is playing games with that, too, claiming to administrators in a meeting that they would not allow any VAM scores to be made public and that only the teachers would receive them-funny, then why does the LA Times claim they are getting ready to publish more of this pseudo scientific data?  Interestingly enough, the private school Obama and Arne Duncan send their kids to doesn’t believe in value added:

“We don’t tie teacher pay to test scores because we don’t believe them to be a reliable indicator of teacher effectiveness.” (Sidwell Friends faculty member, April 1, 2011)

As Steve Scanlon and Phil Keller noted on their website Save HPHS, “Oh the irony of it all,” – and the hypocrisy.
